After hearing the startling statistics of how many African-American
men were incarcerated, Derwin Stewart, founder and president
of Pneuma
Life Publishing Inc, became burdened with finding solutions
and ideas to reach his incarcerated brothers and change the
statistics. As a publisher of many successful internationally
known authors, Derwin shared his burden with his authors and
other national leaders and started on his quest to network
leaders, professionals and speakers to contribute their talents
to changing the destiny of African-American males. The result
of Derwin’s passion for solutions for incarcerated African
American males, Brothers was birthed.
Brothers is a non-profit organization devoted to developing
culturally sensitive character-building programs for African-American
males incarcerated in federal, state, and local jails and
prisons. Brothers also targets its efforts toward troubled
youth that potentially could be incarcerated. This is accomplished
through its’ publication “Young Brothers†which
is distributed on the campuses of high schools and junior
high schools across America.
Pneuma Life Publishing
Anxious to have his life-changing work published, Derwin shopped
for a publisher for many months. Several publishers expressed
interest but were unwilling to publish the work with so strong
an emphasis on topics such as The Holy Spirit. Unable to find
a publisher, he decided to publish the work himself. In 1991,
his heart's compilation was published and Pneuma
Life Publishing was born. Derwin thoroughly researched
and studied publishing, marketing, and distribution and was
able to get distribution from the four largest, Christian
distributors in the world. For a self-published, first work
that was unheard of. He sold out of his first 5,000-copy press
run quickly. By the grace of God, a notable author
took notice of the young, enthusiastic, African-American publisher
who had been raised from his death bed. That author was Myles
Munroe, a highly sought-after, best-selling author with worldwide
recognition. The next book published by Pneuma
Life was Myles Munroe's Becoming A Leader, one of our
overall best-sellers.
As the reputation of Pneuma
Life grew, many other notable authors were attracted to
Pneuma
Life and sought an audience with Derwin. In 1997, Pneuma
Life Publishing relocated to Lanham, Maryland and has continued
to grow and gain influence in the industry. Derwin and his
wife, Kimberly, reside in Mitchellville, Maryland. Derwin's
testimony has been inspirational to many people. His philosophy
of determination and hard work has encouraged many a fledgling
entrepreneur. His motto is Nothing is impossible with God
on your side!
Pneuma
Life is one of the largest, privately-owned, African-American,
Christian publishers in the country. We continue to provide
a vehicle by which authors—who could not ordinarily get
published, distributed, recognized, or promoted—can see
their dreams come to fruition. In addition, we have published
works by authors who are well renowned and respected the world
over. We give all the glory and thanks to God!
